Where ancient forest lore meets the master weaver's hand.
This Nabakothi pure silk saree in deep maroon and forest black is one such creation. Woven in the single ikat tradition, every motif on this saree has been resist-dyed thread by thread before the first shuttle is ever thrown , a labour of precision that cannot be hurried, only honoured.
The Body Nine squares of ikat storytelling , the Nabakothi design, cover the body in an alternating dance of deep black and rich maroon. Within each square, traditional Odishan buti motifs bloom: floral rosettes, geometric stars, butterfly forms, and conch-like shapes rendered in ivory, red, and black. The resist-bleed of single ikat gives each motif a characteristic feathered edge, not imperfection, but the living signature of the handloom.
The Border A Rudraksha border frames the saree on either side, rows of the sacred bead rendered in the weave itself, carrying with it centuries of spiritual symbolism from the temples of Odisha.
The Pallu The pallu is where this saree truly roars to life. Against a maroon ground layered with fine horizontal stripes in gold and ivory, a procession of wild creatures moves in ikat: majestic elephants in forest green, golden deer in graceful stride, proud lions, and lush trees — a scene drawn from the Panchatantra traditions and temple friezes of ancient Kalinga. This is not a pattern; it is a painting in silk.
